Optoelectronics and Microelectronics
The Optoelectronics and Microelectronics area continues to serve as the foundation for many of the most important technological developments we anticipate in the coming century. Research in this area, driven by applications such as 5G-and-beyond communications, power electronics, and high efficiency solar power, includes conceptualization, design, fabrication and testing of advanced active and passive devices and components (e.g. VCSELs, transistors, photodetectors, solar cells, inductors, and filters), enabled by the state of the art growth capabilities of a wide range of compound semiconductor (e.g. III-V and wide-bandgap) and dielectric materials.
