Cunningham Announces New Stillman Lecture Series

Written by Brian Cunningham

On April 23 this year, during the Spring semester, MNTL will host Prof. John Bowers from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) for the inaugural lecture of the Stillman Lecture Series.  As discussed in the Winter 2018 issue of InstruMNTL , Prof. Stillman was not only among the Illinois faculty who led the establishment of the Microelectronics Laboratory in 1989—which was later renamed the Micro & Nanotechnology Laboratory or MNTL—he was also a brilliant scientist, a wonderful teacher, and a helpful colleague.

Prof. Stillman’s legacy is still evident at MNTL today.  The laboratory has continuously evolved to incorporate new research groups with visionary ideas, we’ve continued to add innovative technologies to the suite of capabilities that are broadly available to the campus community, and we are known as a hotbed for interdisciplinary collaboration.  As you read the stories in the latest issue of our enews, you will see examples of new research centers, award-winning projects, and student accomplishments, each representing a world-changing idea that was nurtured here.  We plan to hold two Stillman Lectures every year to welcome visionary speakers to our campus.  We hope that it will contribute to providing a vibrant environment that will continue to advance the vision that began nearly 30 years ago.

Please keep in touch with us, and consider subscribing to our InstruMNTL enewsletter for future updates.
