Minjoo (Larry) Lee has been named interim director of the Holonyak Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory (HMNTL). He follows Yurii Vlasov, who served as interim director of HMNTL during the 2021-22 academic year. The transition will occur on Aug. 16.
Lee, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, co-led the HMNTL director search committee and is an active researcher and leader within the lab. He holds a PhD from MIT. His research interests include “ microelectronics and photonics; nano-materials; quantum nanostructures for electronics and photonics; semiconductor electronic devices; and semiconductor lasers and photonic devices.
“[Larry] has been a great advocate for HMNTL, is a very productive and active resident of HMNTL, and worked with the faculty and staff to advance its mission and vision,” said Rashid Bashir, Dean of The Grainger College of Engineering at UIUC, in a statement to faculty and staff. “I am confident in Larry’s ability to step up and provide leadership for HMNTL for the coming semester.”
Grainger Engineering intends to fill the permanent position this fall or next spring.
